For the Pasta:
12 oz (340 g) of your favorite pasta (spaghetti, penne, etc.)
Salt (for boiling water)
For the Tomato Sauce:
2 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 oz/410 g) of crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Directions
Cook the Pasta:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente (usually 8-12 minutes).
Drain the pasta and set aside.
Prepare the Tomato Sauce:
While the pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, being careful not to burn it.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
Add dried basil, oregano, and sugar (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Simmer the sauce for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally.
Combine and Serve:
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the sauce, tossing to coat the pasta evenly.
Cook for a couple of minutes, just to heat the pasta through.
Remove from heat and garnish with fresh basil or parsley, if desired.
Serve with grated Parmesan cheese, if you like.
