Ingredients:

For the Danish pastry:

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

1 egg (for egg wash)

For the cream cheese filling:

8 oz (1 package) cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg yolk

For the glaze (optional):

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1-2 tablespoons milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk. Mix until the filling is smooth and well combined.

Unroll the sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference. You can make large or small Danish pastries as you like.

Place a spoonful of the cream cheese filling in the center of each pastry square.

Fold the pastry over the filling, creating a triangular shape or folding it in half, depending on the shape of your pastry.

In a small bowl, beat the egg for an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the tops of the pastries. This will give them a golden, shiny finish.

Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.

While the pastries are baking, you can prepare a simple glaze by mixing the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.

Once the pastries are done, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes.

Drizzle the glaze over the warm pastries.

Serve your breakfast cheese Danishes warm and enjoy!

Feel free to customize your Danishes by adding fruit preserves, fresh fruit, or nuts to the cream cheese filling for extra flavor and texture. Enjoy your homemade breakfast cheese Danish!
